Getting started
Most stores can complete the initial setup in a few minutes.
- Install CommerceOpsOpen the app from Shopify Admin and complete the welcome screen.
- Connect ClickUpAuthorize the workspace where operational tasks should be created.
- Create an automationChoose a template or start from scratch, then select the trigger and destination List.
- Test and publishUse Test to validate the ClickUp task before activating the workflow for live events.
Edits to an active automation are saved as a draft. The live configuration keeps running until you publish the draft.
Automations
An automation has one Shopify trigger and a branching workflow made from conditions and ClickUp actions. Draft, active, paused, and needs-attention states make it clear whether a workflow is currently processing events.
Safe editing
For an active automation, Save updates the draft only. Publish replaces the live version after review. Each execution records the published configuration version it used, and the audit log records who changed or published the configuration.
Testing
Test validates the selected ClickUp destination and task configuration before live activation. Testing does not wait for a real store event.
Triggers and conditions
CommerceOps supports operational triggers across the store lifecycle:
Conditions can compare text, numbers, tags, status, SKU, customer information, totals, and other trigger-specific variables. Conditions in the same group use AND logic; separate groups use OR logic. Branches can continue through additional conditions or finish with different actions.
ClickUp actions
Workflow actions can:
- create a task with a dynamic name and description;
- select a Space, Folder, and List from connected workspace data;
- set priority and a relative due date;
- assign a ClickUp user or Team;
- update an existing linked task or its status;
- add comments and supported custom-field values.
Templates support Shopify variables such as order name, total, currency, customer details, line items, SKU, product fields, and Admin URLs. Available variables depend on the chosen trigger.
Use CommerceOps in Shopify Flow
Add the Create ClickUp task CommerceOps action to a Shopify Flow workflow. Open Configure task to select the ClickUp List and optional assignee or Team, priority, and due date. The Flow action also accepts Shopify Flow variables for the task name and description.
CommerceOps stores the selected destination against Flow's step reference, so merchants do not need to find or paste an internal ClickUp List ID. Repeated Flow deliveries use an action-run identifier to prevent duplicate task creation.
Create tasks from orders, products, and customers
CommerceOps admin extensions let a merchant create ClickUp work directly from a Shopify order, product, or customer page. Choose the destination, task content, priority, due date, and assignee or Team without leaving the Shopify workflow.
Linked-task blocks show existing tasks and provide a direct Open in ClickUp action. A single Shopify resource can be linked to multiple manual tasks when separate work items are required.
Activity and failure notifications
Activity records show time, Shopify resource, automation, action, result, and the configuration version used for the run. Open an execution to view processing details, event data, errors, attempts, and linked resources.
Final failures, a disconnected ClickUp account, and usage thresholds can create in-app notifications and transactional emails. Notifications link directly to the execution, automation, reconnect flow, or billing page. Repeated issues are grouped with cooldown logic, and a resolved message can be sent when the issue is fixed.
Plans and limits
The Billing page shows the current Shopify subscription, monthly run usage, and active-automation usage. CommerceOps enforces limits on the server as well as in the interface. If a downgrade would exceed the destination plan's active automation limit, pause enough automations before changing plans.
At 80% and 100% of the monthly run allowance, CommerceOps can show actionable usage warnings. Runs stopped by the plan limit appear distinctly in Activity and are not treated as technical failures.
Privacy and data controls
Settings provides controls to disconnect ClickUp and request deletion of stored CommerceOps data. The app also responds to Shopify's mandatory customer and shop redaction webhooks. Read the full Privacy Policy for data categories, service providers, retention, and privacy rights.
Common troubleshooting steps
A task was not created
Open Activity and confirm whether the run failed, was skipped by conditions, was identified as a duplicate, or reached a plan limit.
ClickUp destinations are missing
Open Integrations, confirm ClickUp is connected, then refresh workspace metadata. Reconnect if authorization has expired or been revoked.
An automation will not activate
Review the banner in the Builder for incomplete steps or plan-limit details. Resolve every listed item, save, and activate again.
